Nigeria’s men’s handball team coach Rafiu Salami stated that his team will give their best against tough opponents Egypt in their last group match today, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The Golden Arrows secured a spot in the Handball event semi-final at the 13th Africa Games in Ghana after defeating Mali 30-18.
Salami’s team knew they needed a big win against Mali, who had lost to Egypt by a large margin, and they achieved it despite some turnovers.
Coach Salami, in his post-match press conference, mentioned that despite initial struggles in the first half, his team regrouped and qualified for the semi-final.
Ahead of their final group match against Egypt, he stated that the aim is to secure a good result to lead the group and have a favorable draw in the semi-final.
“We struggled in the first half due to certain referee decisions and facing a strong Mali team, but we regained our form and won, which is crucial for our development,” Coach Salami expressed.
“Next up is a tough match against Egypt. Despite missing experienced players like Obinna Annih, we will strive to perform our best and top the group.”
He also expressed his team's determination to secure a podium finish and at least a bronze.
