President Bola Tinubu has offered his sympathies on the passing of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II.
Balogun passed away on Thursday at the age of 81.
The late Olubadan reigned for two years, after receiving the Staff of Office from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on March 11, 2022.
In a statement on Friday, Tinubu described Olubadan as an exceptional king who served humanity.
The statement mentioned, “President Bola Tinubu is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II.
“The President sympathizes with the Olubadan’s family, the Oyo State government, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council, and the people of Ibadanland and Oyo State during this significant loss.”
While grieving the monarch, Tinubu celebrated his remarkable life, serving his people, state, and nation.
“His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, was an extraordinary king who used his ancestral throne to serve humanity.
“He was compassionate, brave, and a steadfast advocate of the essential principles of peace, honesty, and unity. We will greatly miss his wise advice during this time in our country’s life,” the statement included.
However, the President urged all mourners to find comfort in the legacy of the late king, noting that “The Olubadan lives forever through his good deeds and the memories of everyone touched by the greatness of his being.”
