Pierce Brosnan has apologized for wandering off the designated trail at Yellowstone National Park.
After admitting his guilt and being fined $500, the actor shared a photo of a thermal area in the park. According to court documents from TheWrap, he has also committed to donating $1,000 to Yellowstone Forever, a nonprofit organization, by April 1.
Brosnan, beginning his statement on Thursday, expressed his deep love and respect for the natural world as an environmentalist. Instagram In a caption, Brosnan stated, “Although I have a great love and respect for the natural world as an environmentalist, I made a quick decision that I do not take lightly when I entered a snow-covered thermal area in Yellowstone National Park to take a picture. I did not notice a warning sign about the danger, nor did I hike in the immediate area.”
In December 2023, Brosnan was accused of hiking off the designated path in restricted thermal areas by the U.S. attorney for Wyoming. In January of this year, Brosnan pleaded not guilty in the case.
The thermal area is restricted because it contains more than 10,000 hazardous geothermal features such as geysers, mudspots, hot springs, and steamvents.
Continuing his post, Brosnan expressed his deep regrets and sincere apologies for trespassing in the sensitive area. He emphasized the importance of caring for and preserving Yellowstone and all National Parks for everyone to enjoy, using the hashtag #StayOnThePath.
Last year, Brosnan was cited twice: once for supposedly going off the designated path, and the second time for entering Mammoth Terraces, a thermal area at the park. The charge for violating closures and usage limits was dropped by U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie Hambrick.
The actor was in the area while filming the movie, “The Unholy Trinity.”
