A lawmaker, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, expressed deep surprise and sadness about the death of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, on Friday.
The PUNCH reports The late king, who ruled for two years, passed away at the age of 81 on Thursday night at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, after a short illness.
Alli, who serves the Oyo South Senatorial District, described Oba Balogun's death as a significant loss for not only the people of Ibadan, but the whole state.
In a statement he personally signed in Ibadan, the legislator expressed his sincere condolences and sympathized with the family, friends, and subjects of the late Olubadan, who became king just two years ago.
The Maye Balogun of Ibadanland mentioned that the news of Oba Balogun’s passing at the age of 82 has greatly impacted the traditional and political circles of Ibadanland.
He noted that Balogun’s relatively short but impactful rule represented a time of unity, progress, and community development.
“I grieve with the people of Ibadanland over the loss of a beloved king and leader. I fully support the community in honoring Oba Balogun's legacy and contributions. His leadership had a lasting impact and he made an unforgettable mark on the cultural fabric of Ibadan. His passing has created a void in many hearts.”
Alli stated that the late king's memory will always be remembered in Ibadan’s history.
