The parents of a Ukrainian journalist who was killed while reporting on the war for Fox News in 2022 filed a lawsuit against the company on Thursday, alleging that it acted recklessly and negligently.
Andriy Kuvshynov and Iryna Mamaysur, the parents of 24-year-old Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova, filed the wrongful death suit in New York State Supreme Court two years after her death. Sasha Kuvshynova and cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski were killed on March 14, 2022. The lawsuit claims that Fox News foreign correspondent Benjamin Hall provided a false account of the incident in his book “Saved,” which was released by Harper Collins on Tuesday.
According to TheWrap, the lawsuit also accuses Fox News foreign correspondent Benjamin Hall of providing a “false account” of the tragic incident in his book “Saved,” released Tuesday by Harper Collins. The lawsuit alleges that Kuvshynova was taken to an active war zone in the town of Horenka, despite warnings from local officials and a security consultant that it was unsafe. Fox News responded to the lawsuit by stating, “While we understand the grief and continue to mourn the loss of both Pierre Zakrzewski and Sasha Kuvshynova, we will respectfully defend against the inaccurate claims within this lawsuit.”
The statement continued, “The safety of our journalists has always been our number one priority and we are immensely grateful to the Fox News reporters who have covered the war in Ukraine and we remain committed to reporting from the region.”
Security consultant Shane Thomson, an advisor for the UK-based security agency SEPAR that was contracted by Fox News at the time, is also a co-plaintiff in the lawsuit.
According to the legal documents, Fox is accused of promoting Hall’s book “for the purpose of deceiving Sasha’s parents and the public about Fox’s wrongful conduct and accountability for Sasha’s death.” Harper Collins is also named in the lawsuit.
The lawsuit, initially filed in New York Supreme Court on Thursday, was moved to federal court on Friday. The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $75,000.
The wrongful death lawsuit also implicates foreign correspondent Benjamin Hall for providing “a false account” of her death in his new book, “Saved.”
