Law enforcement in Peel Region report that the bodies discovered after a house fire in Brampton, Ont., last week belong to three individuals.
A blaze erupted at a residence near Big Sky Way and Van Kirk Drive at approximately 1:30 p.m. on March 7.
Officials stated that the residence was completely consumed by flames, which the Brampton fire chief characterized as “extremely challenging” for his teams.
Following the extinguishing of the fire, the fire marshal’s office was called in to conduct an investigation.
“While examining the scene, investigators made an unfortunate discovery when they located what was believed to be human remains within the destroyed house,” authorities reported.
In collaboration with the coroner’s office, law enforcement confirmed that the human remains belonged to three individuals.
The deceased have been identified by law enforcement as 51-year-old Rajiv Warikoo, 47-year-old Shilpa Kotha and 16-year-old Mahek Warikoo.
Investigators revealed that all three individuals resided at the residence before the fire.
The cause and circumstances of the house fire are still being investigated. Law enforcement has not disclosed any further details regarding the fire.
