Ana Nogueira, who is a playwright, actress, and screenwriter, has been chosen to write a live-action “Teen Titans” movie for DC Studios, based on information from an insider familiar with the project.
Nogueira is currently crafting “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” for the comic book-inspired banner at studio Warner Bros. Discovery.
The Teen Titans are a group of young superheroes from DC Comics that first joined forces in 1964 in DC’s “The Brave and the Bold” in a story by writer Bob Haney and artist Bruno Premiani. The initial team included Kid Flash, Dick Grayson’s Robin, and Aqualad.
The late George Pérez and Marv Wolfman revamped the title in the early 1980s as “The New Teen Titans” and introduced characters such as Cyborg, Beast Boy, Raven, and Starfire. The series is also notable for first showcasing supervillain Deathstroke in “New Teen Titans” #2.
This version of the characters gained popularity through animation, particularly with the highly successful “Teen Titans Go” cartoon. It has led to several full-length films, including the theatrical release “Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.”
The upcoming Supergirl movie by Nogueira will be based on Tom King’s comic book series of the same name and will depict a darker, more intense version of the character than audiences may anticipate.
While Nogueira is known for her roles in shows like “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Blacklist,” she has also established herself as a skilled playwright and screenwriter. Her most recent off-Broadway play was 2022’s “Which Way to the Stage.” She also has an adaptation in progress of Alice Sola Kim’s short story “Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters,” which is set up at Warner Bros. with 21 Laps attached to produce.
Nogueira is represented by CAA, Howard Green Entertainment, and Goodman Genow.
