Dr. James Omietimi has been chosen by President Bola Tinubu to be the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for an initial four-year term.
Prof Sa’ad Ahmed has also been reappointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre in Abuja for another four-year term.
According to a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu has appointed Chief Medical Directors for two Federal Medical Centres.
Omietimi graduated from the University of Port Harcourt in 1994 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree and started his medical career with a focus on Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
He is a member of the West African College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. He has previously served as President of the Association of Resident Doctors and Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Bayelsa State.
Meanwhile, Ahmed, a Professor of Pathology at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, currently serves a second four-year term as Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre in Abuja.
Ahmed has earned fellowships from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, the International College of Surgeons, the College of American Pathologists, and the Central East and Southern Africa College of Pathology (South Africa).
The President has high expectations for the new Chief Medical Directors to use their extensive experience and professional skills to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality healthcare services to all Nigerians, as stated by Ngelale.
The presidential Spokesman emphasized that this aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to ensure that federal government hospitals offer world-class, people-centred services in line with the best industry practices.
