President Bola Tinubu has agreed to upgrade the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu, to a complete University of Allied Health Sciences.
The Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy in Enugu will now be called the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, and will be under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, as revealed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement he signed Thursday.
The statement is titled, ‘President Tinubu approves upgrade of Federal College of Dental Technology to University.’
Thursday’s approval comes almost one month after he was appointed African Union Champion for Human Resources for Health and Community Health Delivery Partnership.
Ngelale said the institutional upgrade comes during ongoing health reforms, which will see the federal government train 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide within 16 months.
It also aims to double the number of primary health facilities in local communities across the 774 local government areas from its current 8,800 to over 17,000 in the next three years.
Furthermore, the FG said it would double the number of health personnel graduating from accredited nursing and midwifery institutions over the next three years to ensure accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services for Nigerians, said the President’s spokesman.
