The Senate has approved the N1.1tn Federal Capital Territory 2024 Appropriation Bill for a second reading.
A detailed breakdown of the N1.1tn budget showed that N280bn was allocated for overhead, N726bn for capital projects, and N140bn for personnel, making the total budget N1.147tn.
Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the bill's sponsor and Senate Leader, led the discussion on Thursday, stating that the appropriation bill considered the FCT administration’s revenue and expenditure forecasts in line with the Federal Government's fiscal and developmental policies.
It also considered the 2024-2026 Economic Recovery Growth Plan.
During the discussion, Senate President Godswill Akpabio mentioned that the bill, presented earlier than usual, would be swiftly reviewed and passed to support reforms in the nation’s capital by the FCT Minister.
The bill was referred to the FCT committee for reporting back in the next legislative session.
