The leader of Osun State Amotekun Corp, Brig Gen. Bashir Adewinbi (retd.), said on Thursday that the security group had stepped up monitoring in border communities in the state.
He explained that this action was a reaction to the warning issued by Governor Ademola Adeleke on Tuesday about possible attacks on schools and agricultural settlements in the state.
The governor, who expressed concern in a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, stated that those planning the attack aimed to disrupt the progress of his administration by creating fear in the state.
Adeleke mentioned that he had alerted the security forces and planned to implement significant changes to the Amotekun.
When questioned about the efforts of Osun Amotekun to prevent the alleged attack, the commandant mentioned that the state-owned security group had increased patrols in border communities.
Adewinbi mentioned that various measures were being taken to avoid a breakdown of law and order in Osun State.
He stated, “Amotekun is working closely with other security agencies. I have been meeting with the security agencies in the state. We are doing everything we can to prevent it.
“We are considering ways to secure our borders, as well as enhance intelligence gathering within the state and many other things. The security agency is in control of the situation.”
