Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, assured Nigerians that the renovated Port Harcourt Oil Refinery would start operating in two weeks.
Kyari said this on Thursday during a discussion with the Senate.
He guaranteed Nigerians that the deadline for the Port Harcourt and other refineries' delivery remains absolute.
According to the NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, Kyari said, “We will ensure that the commitments we made about rehabilitating these refineries are fulfilled. We finished the mechanical completion of PHRC in December.
“Now, we have crude oil already stored in it. It is currently undergoing regulatory compliance test before we restart it. I guarantee that this refinery will begin in the next two weeks”.
He also mentioned, “For Warri, we have completed mechanical work. It is undergoing regulatory compliance processes with our regulators. Kaduna will be ready by December this year, but we have not reached that stage. We believe it will also be ready on schedule.”
Kyari explained that the Port Harcourt refinery has received 450,000 barrels of crude for processing since the mechanical completion of the plant in December last year.
He urged all stakeholders in the rehabilitation process to cooperate, emphasizing that “we are all serving this country dutifully and loyally. Nigerians must understand that gradually, we shall get this task done.”
The statement also mentioned that the Senate Ad-hoc Committee is expected to visit the three refineries in Kaduna, Warri, and Port Harcourt soon for an on-the-spot assessment of work progress.
