One person has died in Surrey due to a fire in a trailer.
At just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, a travel trailer that was parked on 121A Street, near 84 Avenue, caught fire.
Local residents, including a man with a truck, quickly intervened and moved the trailer onto the street in an attempt to protect the nearby house.
Firefighters then arrived and managed to control the fire.
On Wednesday night, a nearby resident talked to Global News.
“A neighbor pulled the trailer onto the road to keep the house safe. We heard an explosion and the fire became big,” Amanat Kaur said. “(The) firefighters then arrived and brought everything under control.”
Surrey Fire Service reported finding a body inside the trailer shortly after putting out the fire.
Surrey RCMP officers are conducting an investigation.
“At this time the cause of the fire is unknown, however, is not deemed to be suspicious and may have been self-inflicted or accidental,” Staff Sgt. Brad Essex told Global News.
Residents informed Global News that a man owns the house and lives in the trailer parked in front.
