A 26-year-old man named Usman Bube was taken into custody for supposedly trying to rape his neighbor's pregnant wife at the Ogatalo Fulani Camp in the Imala area of Ogun State.
PUNCH Metro received information from a police source that the alleged perpetrator unlawfully entered his neighbor's home around 12:45 pm on Thursday with the intention of committing the offense.
According to our correspondent, the survivor's husband, Muhammed Awwalu, had left the community, leaving his pregnant wife in the apartment.
Knowing that Awwalu was out of town, the suspect reportedly forced his way into the apartment and found the pregnant wife sleeping.
The suspect's repeated efforts to engage in unlawful sexual intercourse with the woman were unsuccessful, prompting him to draw a knife in an attempt to silence and subdue her, as per PUNCH Metro.
As the pregnant woman screamed for help, the suspect cut her left hand before other neighbors arrived to rescue her, according to a police source.
Ogun State Police Command's spokesperson, Odutola Omolola, verified the occurrence in a WhatsApp conversation with our correspondent on Thursday, stating that Bube had been placed in protective custody.
She also mentioned that the survivor had been taken to a nearby hospital for medical care.
Odutola stated, "We have apprehended the suspect. Once the preliminary investigation is completed, he will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department. Meanwhile, the pregnant woman has been hospitalized for treatment due to the cut on her hand.
On September 28, 2023, the command arrested Godstime Ekanemin for allegedly unlawfully entering the matrimonial home of a married woman, Mrs. Jelila Oyinbo, and attempting to rape her.
Oyinbo informed the police that the suspect had been sexually harassing her despite her repeated warnings to stop, as she was a married woman, just before he broke into her apartment and attempted to commit the offense.
The incident reportedly took place in the Mowe/Ofada area of the Obafemi/Owode local government of the state.
