Luzerne County’s Election Bureau reminded people on Thursday that the April 23 primary election falls on the Jewish Passover holiday.
The bureau mentioned that people who celebrate the holiday won't be able to vote at the polling place on Election Day.
The bureau is urging voters who can't vote in person to ask for an absentee ballot application for the upcoming election.
To clarify, voters who choose the absentee option need to provide a reason for voting by mail.
While some people may prefer the traditional absentee option, it's no longer necessary because state lawmakers have introduced mail ballot voting for all voters without requiring a reason.
April 16 is the deadline to request an absentee or no-excuse mail ballot for the upcoming primary.
To get applications for absentee and no-excuse mail ballots, people can make an online request at pavoterservices.pa.gov. Voters can also contact the county election bureau at 570-825-1715 to have an application sent to them..
Any voter with questions about upcoming elections can contact the county election bureau at [email protected].
State lawmakers had thought about moving up the primary election date to avoid the Passover holiday conflict and allow voters to have more influence in deciding the presidential nominees, but they didn't reach a majority agreement.
