The Nova Scotia Police Review Board has concluded that issues with the behavior of Halifax officers in a 2018 sexual assault case are not enough for it to suggest alterations.
Carrie Low filed a complaint against Const. Bojan Novakovic and the Halifax police for how they dealt with her sexual assault on May 19, 2018, by at least two men in a suburb of the city.
Low was upset that her clothing wasn't quickly collected and tested for DNA, and that the police did not promptly send someone to the assault scene to gather and secure evidence.
Novakovic was penalized eight hours' pay for not promptly recording in a police database that Low's clothing had not been picked up and stored correctly.
The review board states that the police's actions do not justify interference.
The board will decide later whether Novakovic's punishment was enough.
