People using dating apps to find love should be careful when meeting someone in person, following an incident involving a woman and two men in Lethbridge who were accused of participating in a home invasion and armed theft. The woman apparently met the 67-year-old man online and was then involved in the crime.
According to the police, they received a report last Saturday about a man who had sustained significant injuries during a home invasion-style theft early that morning. The man informed the authorities that he had been communicating with a woman online and arranged to meet at his residence; however, when he opened the door, his date was accompanied by two masked men who forcibly entered his home.
Lethbridge police stated on Thursday that “one of the male individuals was armed with a gun and the other with a knife. They took belongings from the victim, such as his wallet and phone, struck him in the face with the gun, and cut him with the knife before departing in an SUV.
“The victim’s bank cards were utilized at nearby convenience stores by a male who was captured on video surveillance and later identified by the police. After further investigation, the female and another male were also identified,” noted the police.
The woman was located and arrested on Monday, while the two men were apprehended on Tuesday. During the arrest of one of the men, property belonging to the victim and a black BB handgun were found.
On Tuesday, the police executed a search warrant for a vehicle and a residence along the 1000 block of 27 A Street North. They discovered clothing worn by the suspects and items belonging to the victim. Additionally, another woman in the house was arrested for unrelated criminal activities.
