The Rivers State Police Command has started getting rid of old explosive materials held by Baker Hughes Company Limited, an independent oil and natural gas firm, according to a statement by the command's spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, on Wednesday.
The spokesperson for the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, announced on Wednesday in a statement that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team of the command is currently carrying out the destruction of the explosive materials after receiving the necessary approval.
Iringe-Koko stated that the disposal operation is taking place at Kporghor Community in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, starting from 9 am daily.
The police spokesman mentioned, “The Rivers State Police Command would like to inform the general public that Baker Hughes Company Limited has been given permission to dispose of expired explosive materials under the supervision of relevant experts.
“This disposal will take place from Tuesday, 12th March, to Friday, 15th March 2024, by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team of the command, starting at 0900hrs daily, at Kporghor Community in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.”
She reassured residents not to worry and highlighted that preventive measures had been implemented to prevent any harm.
