The Academic Staff Union of Universities at Benue State University Branch in Makurdi has stopped its strike.
This was stated in a release by the chairman and secretary of the group, Comrades Kwagfan Tarnongo and Terrumun Gajir, and given to reporters in Makurdi on Wednesday.
The BSU ASUU has been on strike since February 1, 2024, to demand implementation and payment of accrued arrears of 2021, 2022, and 2023 promotions
The union said it suspended the strike because of the personal intervention of the university's visitor, Governor Hyacinth Alia, who appealed and assured that all the ASUU-BSU grievances will be resolved once the strike is suspended.
“The Congress therefore mandated the Branch Executive Committee to enter into the tripartite agreement.
“Therefore, the ASUU-BSU Congress decided to end the strike in deference to the intervention of the Visitor and Executive Governor of Benue State.
“The ASUU-BSU Congress firmly believes that the government under Governor Hyacinth Alia will ensure that the agreement is fully, promptly, and satisfactorily implemented.
“In view of the foregoing, and following permission from ASUU National, ASUU-BSU wishes to inform the public that the strike it embarked upon on the 1st February 2024 has been suspended today, Wednesday 13 March 2024,” the statement read in part.
