DURYEA — About 10 individuals had to find new living arrangements after a house fire on Wednesday in Duryea.
Firefighters were called to the 500 block of Foote Ave. around 4 p.m., where they found a fire at the back of the building in the basement, just below the back steps.
Although there were initial reports of people being trapped, fire officials confirmed that nobody was inside the house when they arrived.
The fire was put out quickly and officials expected to have the road open to traffic again by 5:30 p.m.
The reason for the fire is not known at this time, and the state police fire marshal will likely be asked to investigate.
The Red Cross was informed to assist those impacted by the fire.
Duryea Fire, Avoca Fire, Hughestown, Pittston Twp., West Pittston, and Pittston City EMS all went to the scene.
