Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist from MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' criticized the Republican Party after Donald Trump's allies seized control of the Republican National Committee and carried out a large layoff. They argued that those who were not laid off will eventually be fired if they are not 'sufficiently loyal' to Trump's group.
'That's basically what a cult is,' Geist stated.
Scarborough expressed his deep concern about the state of the Republican party on Tuesday.
Scarborough, on Tuesday, voiced his concern over the show's banner that read 'Trump's Campaign Facing Financial Peril.’ He said, 'Anyone who has been concerned about a healthy republican party has been warning about this for years. If you choose Donald Trump, you're electing someone unfit to be president, and also putting the republican party in a very bad position.'
Scarborough's comments were in response to Trump's control of the RNC, which led to the firing of over 60 officials, and the appointment of Trump family members like Lara Trump, who is now the committee's chair. Trump's close ally Michael Whatley is now co-chair, following the removal of Ronna McDaniel, who has been serving the committee since 2017. Despite Trump's campaign stating that they will not be using RNC's funds to support Trump's campaign, Scarborough disagreed. legal bills, Scarborough had a different view.
He criticized Trump for using his campaign funds to pay legal bills and then firing RNC personnel to involve more family members to increase financial support for his legal bills. He mentioned the negative impact on Senate and House candidates due to the campaign cash depletion and the replacement of competent staff with incompetent 'cult members.'
MSNBC anchor Willie Geist added that Trump’s allies are purging the committee and eliminating anyone who is not aligned with them.
Geist described the recent events as a purge and loyalty test, saying, 'If Lara Trump, who is Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law and co-head of the RNC, is essentially running it at Donald Trump's request to determine who is loyal to him and who is not. If you're not loyal enough, you're out.'
Trump made the decision to downsize the RNC just eight months before the November election, reducing roles in the committees’ communications, data and political departments, according to The New York Times. At least four senior staffers, including Elliot Echols, the RNC’s political director, have been dismissed so far.
