Brendon Brobst had a huge game and MMI Prep's solid defense led them to win the PIAA Class A boys basketball playoffs. The Preppers rallied to defeat High Point Baptist 39-35 on Tuesday at Minersville High School.
Brobst scored 23 of MMI’s 39 points, including five of their nine points in the final quarter. He also made MMI's only three-pointer but chose to score mostly in the paint to become the top scorer.
At halftime, the Preppers were ahead by two points in a close, low-scoring game. However, High Point Baptist outscored MMI 16-11 in the third quarter, taking a 33-30 lead into the final eight minutes.
In the fourth quarter, the District 3 third seed only scored two points, while MMI tightened their defense and did just enough to take the lead and win.
Ryan Sones contributed nine points and Nick Pantages added six for the Preppers. Pantages scored four points in the last quarter to support the Preppers’ cause.
High Point Baptist's top scorer was Nick Harris, with 13 points.
MMI Prep is set to play District 3 champion Linville Hill in the Class A quarterfinals on Friday. Linville Hill defeated Bethlehem Christian 83-57 in their second-round matchup on Tuesday.
