Melania Trump has declined to participate in her husband's campaign and may not relocate to DC if Donald Trump wins the election.
Author Katie Rogers, who has penned a new book about first ladies, stated Politico:
Based on my research on Melania Trump, it is clear that she enjoys being the first lady. However, she does not seem to enjoy campaigning or defending her husband, as she has been called to do multiple times. Additionally, it does not appear that she is interested in returning to Washington on a full-time basis.
So, I assume that if Trump prevails, we could anticipate a first lady who embraces the role. However, due to her unconventional nature, she may take her time returning to Washington, choosing to go back and forth. This scenario seems plausible to me.
During his first term, Donald Trump was somewhat absent as a president. If he secures a second term, his wife may also be largely absent as the first lady.
There have been numerous reports indicating that Melania Trump enjoys being the first lady, but she seems unwilling to perform the associated duties.
The role of the first spouse is not an official position within the administration. It does not come with legal authority or a salary. While the country is not obliged to have a first lady, the president and the first family typically set a cultural tone and serve as examples for the nation.
Like her husband, Melania Trump seems uninterested in serving others or contributing. The former first lady even refuses to travel in the same car as her husbands. It is not surprising, therefore, that she does not wish to reside in the White House with him., so it isn’t surprising that she doesn’t want to live in the White House with him either.
