PITTSTON — Coffee Inclusive, a coffee shop in Pittston, is commemorating its one-year milestone by hosting a day-long birthday event on Wednesday, March 13, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cafe employs individuals with diverse abilities such as Autism and Down Syndrome.
The public is welcome to join the celebration.
Operated by PA Inclusive (formerly NEPA Inclusive), Coffee Inclusive is providing special offers to customers during the birthday celebration. These include any coffee drink plus any baked good for $10, and a smoothie or pressed juice drink and two energy balls for $20.
Throughout the day, employees and guest baristas will spin a prize wheel for customer giveaways, which may include complimentary coffee drinks and Coffee Inclusive merchandise.
The Coffee Inclusive celebration is one of several events organized by PA Inclusive as part of their activities for Developmental Disabilities Month.
Since 1987, this month-long celebration, led by the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) and its partners, has been a significant occasion for advocacy and inclusion every March.
It's a time to look back on the progress made in promoting the rights and abilities of individuals with developmental disabilities, while also continuing to strive for a genuinely inclusive society.
Coffee Inclusive hires individuals with diverse abilities, including intellectual disabilities and Autism, to work alongside experienced baristas and servers, creating a friendly and inclusive community coffee shop experience. The coffee shop officially opened for business on March 13, 2023.
Coffee Inclusive offers a wide range of cold and hot coffees, lattes, espressos, mochas, and cappuccinos, as well as locally sourced teas and various baked goods. Additionally, they serve nutritious fruit smoothies and acai bowls.
Customers can place their orders to go or enjoy their food and beverages at one of the many relaxed seating areas inside and around the coffee shop.
Proceeds from the anniversary celebration will contribute to fundraising for Bake Inclusive, the new bakery being constructed at Coffee Inclusive.
Bake Inclusive aims to employ more individuals with disabilities and establish a transitional employment training program for high school students, preparing them for post-high school employment with the goal of successful career outcomes after 'aging out' of high school. Bake Inclusive is set to open this spring.
Coffee Inclusive is situated in Pittston's Waterfront Warehouse at 350 Kennedy Blvd., Suite 12.
Customers needing handicap accessibility or the use of an elevator should use the building's alternate entrance at 22 East Street and take the elevator to the second floor to access Coffee Inclusive.
