Two wrestlers from the Wyoming Valley Conference will compete in the consolation semifinal matches on Saturday for a chance to place as high as third at the PIAA Girls Wrestling Championships in Hershey.
Sierra Ripka from Nanticoke Area and Alahna Morris from Lake-Lehman are the only two WVC qualifiers remaining after the first two days of competition at the boys and girls state tournaments.
Ripka lost 4-0 to Maya Krieger from Bensalem in the 170-pound semifinal bout.
Krieger scored all points in the second period, receiving a penalty point, an escape, and a takedown.
Ripka will now face Gracie Haflic from Liberty.
Earlier in the day, Ripka won 5-1 against Sarah Lynn from Big Spring in the quarterfinal bout.
Wrestling in the 148-pound category, Morris achieved two pins to advance to the consolation semifinals. She first pinned Hannah Hornick from Seneca Valley in 2:21 and then pinned Symarah Drey from Liberty in 3:29.
She will compete against Jameson Strickland from Sun Valley in the consolation semifinals.
At 118 pounds, Isabell Seip from Wyoming Valley West's tournament ended in a second-round consolation match, losing 2-1 to Savannah Richards from Pottstown after four extra overtime periods.
Richards scored an escape in the second period, while Seip tied the match with an escape at 1:34 in the third period. The match was decided by Richards' escape in the seventh period at the 24-second mark.
Also at 118 pounds, Rachel Shoemaker from Crestwood pinned Addison Becht from Schuylkill Valley in 3:29 in a first-round consolation match, but her tournament ended with a 3-0 loss to Leah Sample from Saegertown in a second-round consolation match.
Seip moved on to the second-round qualifier after winning her first match of the day, defeating Cleona O'Brien from Hempfield 9-2.
At 130 pounds, Miah Molinaro from Hazleton Area was pinned by Asia Fowler from Woodland Hills in 2:14 in a first-round consolation match.
At 148 pounds, Brooke Long from the Spartans was pinned at 2:45 by Hannah Hornick from Seneca Valley in a first-round consolation match. Long was leading 4-2 at the time of the pin, with a reversal and a nearfall.
In the boys Class 3A competition, Lucas Tirpak from Dallas, the only WVC wrestler left, saw his tournament end with a 6-2 loss to Jordan Barry from Downington West.
