The Defence Headquarters has stated that troops deployed across the country are ready to tackle any security risks, particularly as Muslims begin Ramadan.
The DHQ’s guarantee aligns with a message from the Department of State Services, which extends greetings to Christians for Lent and Muslims for the upcoming Ramadan. It also encourages people to stay watchful, especially against the threat of improvised explosives. Improvised Explosives.
The statement reads, “The public is advised to stay informed about potential threats, avoid crowded or suspicious areas, and report any unusual objects, activities, and movements of hostile elements to relevant security agencies.
“Similarly, the Service advocates for tolerance, bonds of brotherhood, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence among the populace.”
The DHQ, in a statement on Friday by Director Media Operation Maj. Gen. Buba Edward, said troops are ready and capable of handling security threats during the period.
“Even as Ramadan is about to begin, troops are prepared as a formidable force against threats and are adept at dealing with them,” the statement reads.
Buba also pledged that the troops would persist until terrorists are defeated on the battlefield.
He stated, “The military will continue to defeat the terrorists and their associates on the battlefield and drive them out of their safe havens across the country.
“The armed forces are a stabilizing force seeking to bring stability where it is needed across the country. Accordingly, we are committed and remain resolute in our mission to defend the country and protect the citizens. ”
Referring to the troops' accomplishments during the week, Buba said over 210 terrorists were killed and 142 were arrested.
“It is in this context that, during the week under review, troops neutralized 210 and arrested 142 of them. Troops also arrested 66 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 46 kidnapped hostages. Additionally, troops recovered 243 various weapons and 5,453 assorted ammunition,” the statement added.
He also mentioned that in the South-South region, the troops prevented oil theft amounting to an estimated sum of N2.2bn.
Buba added that troops in the Niger Delta area uncovered and destroyed 63 dugout pits, 46 boats, and 120 storage tanks.
“Other items recovered include 100 cooking ovens, 3 outboard engines, 11 pumping machines, 23 vehicles, 2 tricycles, 6 mobile phones, one generator, and 81 illegal refining sites. Troops recovered 1,932,245 liters of stolen crude oil, 432,150 liters of illegally refined AGO, and 3,500 liters of DPK,” he added.
