A non-governmental organization called Varsity Gate Resources has awarded scholarships to 563 high school students from all 18 local government areas of Ondo State.
The organization stated that the scholarships were given to students who had taken the VGR's JAMB Form Scholarship Examination and achieved outstanding results.
Programme Director of the NGO in Ondo State, Mr Babatunde Timileyin, revealed this while presenting the scholarship awards to five students from Oyemekun Grammar School Akure, who were among the recipients, on Friday.
Timileyin explained that the program aimed to recognize academic excellence among the state's students, noting that the beneficiaries performed well in the GFS Examination for students.
He clarified that the scholarship would support the recipients through university level.
He also mentioned that the program commenced in 2012 and would continue to recognize academic achievement to motivate students and acknowledge their academic performance.
The director said, “We hold the program annually and conduct a JAMB Form Scholarship Examination across all schools in the 18 local government areas of the state. The exam is open to all interested students from all parts of the state, and those who qualify will receive the awards.
“After their JAMB examination, another examination will be conducted for those who passed and qualified. The candidates will be given university acceptance fees and tuition fees up to their final year in any federal university of their choice in the country. To date, over 563 students have benefited from this program.”
In addition to awarding scholarships, Timileyin noted that the initiative also offered mentorship programs, training, and financial support for the students.
In response to VG Resources' gesture, one of the awardees, Lucky Jireh, who is also the top student in the scholarship examination, expressed gratitude, saying, “I want to thank VG Resources for giving me this award, and I also want to encourage other students to focus on their academic performance.”
