Megyn Kelly criticized Sen. Katie Britt’s “cringe” State of the Union response, stating that the GOP missed their chance to argue against President Joe Biden.
“The Republicans had a chance to present themselves well and speak to regular Americans about real issues,” Kelly stated on her SiriusXM podcast on Friday.
“They failed, as usual,” she added. “They chose Katie Britt, a rising star in the Republican Party and a senator from Alabama. I was shocked by what I saw. I agree with those who said she seemed like she was auditioning for a Lifetime show. The exaggerated emotions and lack of authenticity were cringeworthy, as the kids would say. Sorry!”
Kelly’s comments were in response to Britt’s response to Biden's address to Congress.
Kelly also mentioned that it will take years for Britt’s political reputation to recover.
“She made a fool of herself,” Kelly remarked. “She brought shame to the Republicans and women. It was a disgrace. I was horrified by her performance. And I believe it will take her years to bounce back from that display.”
Britt started her speech by stating that she ran for the senate seat because she’s a mother concerned about her children’s future and other American children's futures. She also criticized Biden as “out of touch.”
“Under his leadership, families are worse off,” Britt mentioned. “Our communities are less safe and our country is less secure. I just wish he understood the challenges faced by real families around kitchen tables like this one.”
“Mr. President, enough is enough. Innocent Americans are dying, and you only have yourself to blame. Fulfill your oath of office. Reverse your policies. End this crisis and stop the suffering,” she concluded. “His reckless spending dug our economy into a hole and sent the cost of living through the roof. We have the worst inflation in 40 years and the highest credit card debt in our nation’s history. Let that sink in.”
